But remember the LORD your God,
for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so
confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is
today. (Deuteronomy 8:18 NIV)

God is the one who provides for us when we have a need. This means he supplies for our financial needs.

In
other words, I don’t look to an employer for my security. I don’t look
to my savings for security. I don’t look to anyone or anything other
than God to supply my needs.

Let me illustrate it this way: When I
turn on the water, I don't think the water actually comes straight
from the faucet. I know the water really comes from a reservoir. It
just comes to me through the faucet.

In the same way, the income
that God wants to give you may come through a job or through something
else. But the source is always God.

This means you don’t need to
worry about which faucet he uses to supply your needs. In a sense, he
says, “If I turn off one faucet, I can just as easily turn on another.
If you lose one job, I can give you another. I am your source, not your
job. I am your source, not your bank account.”

Saddleback Resources offers a small group Bible study related to these devotionals: The Invisible War-Winning the Battle of Temptation.

Rick Warren is the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in

"Over a period of 1,600 years, 40 different authors wrote the 66 booksof the Bible. There were 400 silent years between the 39 books of theOld Testament and the 27 of the New Testament. Yet, Genesis toRevelation tell one unified story." (Our Daily Bread, 10/29) It would beclose to impossible to make the scriptures as unified over that span.

It's only an approximation because no one knows the exact number. Adding up the number of years from before the time of Moses, to just after the apostle John finished the book of Revelation. Many people believe that Job lived before God's people left Egypt. That happened around 1450 B.C. The book of Revelation was finished around A.D. 100. So, from 1500 B.C. (just before the time of Moses) to A.D. 100 is 1,600 years.

It is also believed that scripture was being written only when God guided someone through inspiration (2 Timothy 3:16). This means there were long stretches of time when no one was writing. For instance, there was a silence of about 400 years between the death of the last Old Testament prophet and the coming of John the Baptist.

My name is Mack. I am a 28 year old and for the past 5 years, I have had a heightened interest in the physical and mental health and wellness of myself and others. I have family members and friends who have sought my advice on becoming healthier, but people have so many different health issues, that it is hard to give advice that works for the masses. Some people are overweight while others are underweight. Many people have eating disorders that are not necessarily reflected by their weight. I want to be able to help my family and friends achieve their long term health goals, but I would like a better understanding of how people with various health issues think. I want to know…

What is it physically like to be overweight? (Please explain if being overweight makes you feel tired, weak, etc. Also, in your response, please write your age, height, and weight.)

Does your being physically overweight affect you mentally? If yes, how? (Do you have a higher/lower self-esteem? Are you depressed? Etc.)

If your weight affects you mentally in a negative way, have you sought professional advice on controlling your weight? If yes, has the advice helped?

If the professional advice has not helped, do you believe there is a specific reason why it was unbeneficial? Please explain.

Sabbath or a sabbath is generally a weekly day of rest and/or time of worship that is observed in several faiths. The term derives from the Hebrew shabbat, "to cease," which was first used in the Biblical account of the seventh day of Creation. Observing the Sabbath is one of the Ten Commandments (the fourth in the original Jewish, the Eastern Orthodox, and most Protestant traditions, the third in Roman Catholic and Lutheran traditions).

*Shabbat is observed from sundown Friday until the appearance of three stars in the sky on Saturday night. Shabbat shalom (שַׁבָּת שָׁלוֹם) is a common greeting used on Shabbat.

While making certain not to endorse any denomination of religion
over another, the founders of this nation made it emphatically clear that
the principles upon which this Nation was built are based squarely upon
the Bible.

Virtually every one of the 55 writers and signers of the United
States Constitution were members of various Christian denominations: 29 were
Anglicans, 16 to 18 were Calvinists, 2 were Methodists, 2 were Lutherans,
2 were Roman Catholic, 1 lapsed Quaker and sometimes Anglican, and 1 open
deist--Dr. Franklin who attended every kind of Christian worship, called
for public prayer, and contributed to all denominations.

George Mason is called the father of the Bill of Rights, for he
insisted that the first ten amendments be added to the Constitution. The
purpose for such an addition? "The laws of nature are
the laws of God, whose authority can be superseded by no power on earth,"
Mason said.

James McHenry was a member of the Continental Congress, a state
legislator, a soldier, and a signer of the Constitution...as well as the
president of the first Bible Society in Baltimore. McHenry stated:

The doctrine they preach, the obligations
they impose, the punishment they threaten, the rewards they promise,
the stamp and image of divinity they bear, which produces a conviction
of their truths, can alone secure to society, order and peace, and to
our courts of justice and constitutions of government, purity, stability,
     and usefulness.

Charles Cotesworth Pinckney also signed the Constitution, and served
as a delegate to the national Constitutional Convention and an author of
the Constitution of South Caroline. Pinckney was a statesman, soldier, planter,
a brigadier general and a candidate for President and Vice-President. Like
the rest of the signers of the Constitution, he too recognized the Sovereignty
of God:

"Blasphemy against the Almighty is denying his being or providence,
or uttering contumelious reproaches on our Saviour Christ. It is punished,
at common law by fine and imprisonment, for Christianity is part of
the laws of the land."

-adopted from an article online called "THE BIBLE AND THE CONSTITUTION"

**would the country be much better off putting God and his Christian values back into the government as some intended it to be or should the separation of church and state prevail? would it be fair or unfair towards those who are non believers?? let's keep it clear...
People have many different reasons for rejecting the gospel. A common
one is to blame Christians for something they did or did not do. These
critics say, "I know a Christian who treated me poorly." Or, "I went to
church and no one talked to me."

Indeed, Christians aren't perfect and many can be bad examples. But blaming others doesn't remove one's accountability to God.

-Adopted from Our Daily Bread

*Remember,

On
a late summer day in 2006, in Jena, Louisiana, a Black high school
student asked permission to sit beneath the "white tree" in front of
the town's high school. It was unspoken law that this shady area was
for whites only during school breaks. But a student asked, and the vice
principal said nothing was stopping them. So Black students sat
underneath the tree, challenging the established authority of
segregation and racism. The next day, hanging from the tree, were three
ropes, in school colors, each tied to make a noose.

The events
set in motion by those nooses led to a schoolyard fight. And that fight
led to the conviction, on June 28, 2007, of a Black student at Jena
High School for charges that can bring up to 22 years in prison. Mychal
Bell, a 16-year-old sophomore football star at the time he was
arrested, was convicted by an all-white jury, without a single witness
being called on his behalf. And five more Black students in Jena still
face serious charges stemming from the fight.

By Alice Woodward 12 July, 2007 Countercurrents.org
http://www.countercurrents.org/woodward120707.htm

*Read
up on this story when you get a chance and pray for the outcome. The
three white students responsible were given only three days of
in-school suspension while the Jena 6, as the Black students have come
to be called, are in prison and on trial for defending themselves
against white supremacist attacks. It's really sad that racism can
still be this blatant.

It seems that every few weeks we read another report touting the health benefits of being religious. Scientists have discovered, for example, that people who study the Bible, pray and go to church are less likely to have high blood pressure. Another study has found that smokers who go to church live longer than smokers who don't. One researcher has summed it up: "If you're a smoker, get your butt in church."

Linda George, a sociology professor at Duke, observes that "religious people have better support systems, which keep them healthier," and she suggests that "the sense of meaning and kind of comfort that religious beliefs provide make them more resistant to stresses, both physical and social."
Apollo 11 landed on the surface of the moon on Sunday, July 20, 1969. Most of us are familiar with Armstrong's historic statement as he stepped onto the moon's surface: "That's one small step for a man; one giant leap for mankind." But few know about the first meal eaten there.

Buzz Aldrin had brought aboard the spacecraft a tiny communion kit provided by his church. Aldrin sent a radio broadcast to earth asking listeners to contemplate the events of that day and to give thanks.

Then, in radio blackout for privacy, Aldrin poured wine into a silver chalice, He read, 'I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit" (John 15:5). Silently, he gave thanks and partook of the bread and cup.

God is everywhere, and our worship should reflect this reality. In Psalm 139 we are told that wherever we go, God is intimately present with us. Buzz Aldrin celebrated that experience on the surface of the moon. Thousands of miles from earth, he took time to commune with the One who created, redeemed, and fellowshipped with him.

-Adopted from Our Daily Bread

*Whether it's in the forefront or not, God is the reason for pure/good success.

After being kidnapped, held hostage for 13 days, and released, New Zealand news cameraman Olaf Wiig, with a broad smile on his face, announced, "I feel more alive now than I have in my entire life."
For reasons difficult to understand, being freed is more exhilarating than being free.
-Adopted from Our Daily Bread

*Let's not forget the freedom we have and enjoy each day. It's easy to overlook things that just happen naturally like our ability to see, hear, go to school, shop, travel, receive love from friends or family, talk on the phone about only God knows what, etc. So let's be sure to count our blessings and give thanks to the One who makes it all possible.

In his book "The Perfect Storm," author Sebastian Junger reports
astonishing facts about the power of a hurricane: "A mature hurricane
is by far the most powerful event on earth; the combined nuclear
arsenals of the United States and the former Soviet Union don't contain
enough energy to keep a hurricane going for one day. A typical
hurricane . . . could provide all the electric power needed by the
United States for three or four years."

Seafarers encounter
diverse weather conditions. But those who experience a severe storm
have one emotion in common - fear. Mark 4:35-41 records a gale that
threatened the boat carrying Jesus and His disciples on the Sea of
Galilee. In a panic, the disciples awakened Jesus. He calmly rebuked
the wind and sea by saying, "Peace, be still!" (literally "hush") as if
He were quieting an agitated child (v.39). Immediately, the gale
stopped and the water became inexplicably placid. The disciples asked,
"Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!" (v.41).

-Adopted from Our Daily Bread

*Be
sure to take all your cares, worries, struggles, ailments, etc. to God
1st. A lot of us seem to ask family, friends, the doctor, and many
others for help but forget to take it to the Almighty. Let's keep in
mind that we're finite human beings but God is infinitely able to do
whatever He wants to do. Is there anything to hard for God?

Originally, the Greek word mimeomai referred to imitating the behavior of another. According to Aristotle, at the beginning of civilization, men learned skills by imitating other living creatures, i.e., spinning from spiders and house building from swallows. In the New Testament, Paul uses this word to exhort other Christians to follow godly examples (1 Cor. 11:1). Despite his own imperfections, Paul wished to serve as a model of spiritual growth (Phil. 3:12-14).

- Adapted from The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology

*The point, be a good Godly example to those around you.

A few good Christian suggestions to help raise them kids:

1. Teach them to pray as soon as they can speak.
2. Give them nothing they cry for and only what is good for them if they ask politely.
3. To prevent lying, punish no fault that is freely confessed, but never allow a rebellious, sinful act to go unchecked.
4. Commend and reward good behavior.
5. Strictly observe all promises you have made to your children.
6. Read them biblical stories. Present them in fun ways that would keep them interested.
7. Lead by example. Atleast in front of the kids.
8. Surround them with a positive atmosphere as much as possible.
9. Spend time doing things they like to do that are not sinful, even if you're not that interested.
10. Love and forgive them like Jesus loves and forgives you.

*Following
these suggestions may not keep them from losing their minds at some
point, but it will heightened their chances of pulling themselves back
together after a while. They'll also know Who to call on during the
consequences they'll have to face.
